ICCAS 2002 - Sweden, Malmö
ICCAS 2002 was the 11th International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding. ICCAS 2002 was held in Malmoe/Sweden on 9-12 September 2002.
ICCAS 2002 was following a series of successful conferences held in Tokyo/Japan 1973,
Göteborg/Sweden 1976, Glasgow/United Kingdom 1979, Annapolis/USA 1982, Trieste/Italy 1985,
Shanghai/China 1988, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil 1991, Bremen/Germany 1994, Yokohama/Japan 1997 and Boston/USA 1999.
The venue for ICCAS 2002 was the traditional “Malmö Börshus”
an attractive and excellent environment for the international conference.
ICCAS 2002, the must-go conference for maritime IT-experts and decision makers,
offers a unique opportunity to be updated on the latest results and developments in
information and communication technology relating to shipbuilding and to develop international
contacts with colleagues working in all different fields of application. The 2002 presentations will
especially focus on practical experiences gained from the implementation and advanced use of ICT.
Depending on the locations ICCAS conferences normally attract between 200 and 400 delegates
from more than 20 countries and 4 continents.
The ICCAS 2002 programme offered a total of 55 presentations from 15 countries
and in addition most attractive panel key notes and dinner speech.
Topics cover the full range of themes related to computer applications in shipbuilding including
life cycle aspects of ships and offshore structures:
Concept design, tendering, initial design, general arrangement, cost and work estimation, hull form, hydrodynamic analysis and basic structure design
Detailed and production design
Structure, machinery, hull and outfitting design
Parts manufacturing and assembly
Prefabrication, shop automation, robotics, assembly, simulations and accuracy control
Material control, supply chain management, logistics and e-solutions
Inspection and maintenance
Life cycle maintenance, parts and systems reliability, inspection standards and risk management
All papers have been pre-selected by the
International Programme Committee,
a well known group of knowledgeable experts from industry, technology providers and science.
As part of the programme and as an ICCAS special with a European importance,
ICCAS 2002 integrates a workshop from the IST Thematic Network WONDERMAR.
This integrated one day workshop runs on 12th September as a de-facto parallel session of ICCAS.
The WONDERMAR workshop host a total of 8 presentations from European maritime RTD projects with ICT content,
which will be offered to the international ICCAS audience.
The WONDERMAR presentations was indicated in the ICCAS programme.
Access to the WONDERMAR workshop was free of charge and therefore open to all ICCAS participants.
However registrants for the WONDERMAR workshop,
basically representatives from companies of the Danish/Swedish/Norwegian/German region can meet ICCAS people,
make contacts and exchange views.
Organisation and marketing for the WONDERMAR workshop was done by MDCE –
the Maritime Development Center of Europe located in Copenhagen/Denmark and
is an association taking care of the maritime issues of the Öresund-region.
